On Tuesday the 26th of June at 8pm in the New Theatre in Warsaw a concert with the reading of ‘Golgota Picnic’ by Rodrigo García will take place as part of the Malta Festival Poznań.

The event is an altered form of the play, the full version of which could not be displayed in the city of Poznań. The actors, usually collaborating with Rodrigo García, who will take part in the performance are: Gonzalo Cunill, Nuria LLoansi, Juan Loriente, Juan Navarro and the pianist Marino Formenti. The reading of the script will be accompanied by the piece by Joseph Haydn ‘The Seven Last Words of Christ’, which is a part of the play ‘Golgota Picnic’.

We would like to stress that the Malta Festival Poznań, Mr Rodrigo García as well as the other makers of the play ‘Golgota Picnic’ have not been the cause but the victim of censorship. Throughout the whole history of the Malta Festival we have been very much against preventive critic and our view on that matter will never change. The cancellation of the performance ‘Golgota Picnic’ by Rodrigo García was motivated only by the growing threat to the safety of all the people who would be taking part. Both passive and active protests were declared to take place in front of CK Zamek, that would most probably spread to Plac Wolności[the Freedom Square] in Poznań.

That is why we are thankful for the participation of the movement ‘Obywatele Kultury’[Citizens of Culture] in the debate as well as for the initiative of numerous institutions and independent parties who will be organizing the reading and projections of ‘Golgota Picnic’ in the days to follow.

After the reading a debate with the participation of Rodrigo García is to take place.
