from the Children Are Free to... series
Street names tell the story of a city in a litany of important names, events and dates. This is serious history. How can it accommodate all the smaller stories connected with specific addresses and be embedded in specific points on the map? With a group of children, we will work on a network of streets to give them new names that describe the children’s presence in the city – their experiences and dreams, the associated adverbs, verbs and nouns. We will create and put up street signs to reorganise the urban space, and we will ask passers-by to make their own contributions to the stories of the particular sites.
